BCH's trustees commit to promoting annual offering

Baptist Children’s Homes (BCH) Trustees met for their bi-annual meeting on September 20 at the Colonial Country Club in Thomasville prior to BCH’s Capital Campaign Celebration. Board chair Jay Westmoreland, a member of First Baptist Charlotte, opened the meeting and moved for the adoption of the day’s agenda and January board meeting’s minutes.

“Our God is the God who is exceedingly capable,” Westmoreland said. “Today will be a day of celebration – a day when we lift each other and offer congratulations. But more importantly, it will be a day when we give all glory back to God.”

Trustees viewed this year’s Annual Offering video entitled “I Am.” Each year, Trustees lead in their churches and Baptist Associations by promoting the Annual Offering. Trustees were given promotion packets and encouraged to share how others could learn more by visiting www.bchoffering.org.

“This time of year is special,” BCH president/ CEO Michael C. Blackwell said. “It is a time to give thanks. It is a time to be faithful. It is the time when North Carolina Baptists show their love and support by giving to the Annual Offering.”

Blackwell recognized the service of two long-time staff members. Lynn Garner, who directs BCH’s Family Care ministry, marked 30 years. Senior Vice President Sam Barefoot reached 35 years of service. He daily oversees BCH’s properties, investments and insurance.

“BCH is able to maintain a culture of excellence because of the commitment of individuals like Lynn and Sam,” Blackwell said. “I am deeply grateful for all they do as we serve children and families.”

Seven Trustees were recognized for their service. Outgoing Trustees are: Pam Annas, Jacque Burgess, Jesse Croom, Renea Henderson, Roy Howell, Amelia Johnson, Sandy Saunders, and Iola Walton.

Trustees approved the 2017 budget and heard various committee reports. The next full board meeting is slated for January 17. The two full board meetings are always the third Tuesday of January and September.
