The sisters were shivering inside their cold, dark house.
Temperatures outside were freezing. Elizabeth, Mary and Carly, ages 7, 5 and 3, did their best to stay warm, but there was no electricity in the home except from one drop cord that ran to the house next door. Their parents were drinking at a nearby bar. The girls were all alone.
The Department of Social Services removed the sisters from the home that same day and brought them to Baptist Children’s Homes (BCH). They arrived at the cottage at 10 p.m. with only the tank tops, shorts and flip flops they were wearing. The cottage parents, Adam and Sian, quickly brought them inside from the cold. While his wife ran warm baths for the girls, Adam made grilled cheese sandwiches and soup. The sisters had settled for eating dry cereal earlier as there was no other food at their parents’ house. Surrounded by their cottage parents and the other children, the sisters knew they were not alone any longer.
The sisters are also no longer alone because they have you. Your generous Christmas sponsorship makes it possible for Sian and Adam, as well as our compassionate caregivers at BCH’s statewide locations, to give children like Elizabeth, Mary and Carly the home they need.
As this joyous season approaches, it’s hard to imagine there are children who are cold, scared and alone wondering if their family has forgotten them. You, however, have been faithful to remember them, and your generosity has changed children’s lives and given them their first ever “Merry Christmas.” Cottage parents will prepare boys and girls Christmas-time favorites such as turkey and ham with all the fixings. Children help hang ornaments on the trees in their cottage living rooms. And their smiles grow wide as they unwrap colorful presents with their names on them. Your sponsorship makes Christmas smiles possible!
And boys and girls hear the Christmas story, often for the first time, as cottage parents share with them the birth of Jesus Christ.
Become a Christmas sponsor today. Thank you for sharing the warmth and joy of the season with hurting children.
Merry Christmas,
Michael C. Blackwell, President/CEO
