Celebrating the legacy of Mary Doby

Mary Doby has been a part of Baptist Children’s Homes (BCH) for as long as she can remember. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.O. Hinkle Sr., made numerous trips to Mills Home during her childhood. The Hinkle’s taught their children how to help others and live their faith by supporting BCH. Mrs. Hinkle loved cooking for the residents and hosting them at the family home – the Hinkle children have fond memories of sharing home-cooked meals. The memories still bring a smile to Mary’s face.

When Mary started her own family, she and her husband, determined they would carry on the family’s legacy – her siblings did the same. The Hinkle Family gave many gifts through the years to help with operating needs, renovations and constructing buildings. As a special way to remember their parents, the Hinkle children donated the building which housed the Hinkle Office Supply Store in Winston-Salem. That gift funded Hinkle House, a home for developmentally disabled adults.

Mary passed her love for BCH to her children Nancy and Wiley (Wiley serves as BCH’s Director of Planned Giving). And they passed their love for the ministry to their children – keeping the legacy growing. Mary celebrated a monumental birthday recently – her 100th. In commemoration, join us in thanking her family for the many years of making a difference. We celebrate Mary and the ways God has worked through her life to help others.
