Giving = Sharing Hope...Changing Lives
September 8, 2013
By Brenda B. Gray, Executive Vice President, Development & Communications
The last week in July, 23 teenagers and their counselors converged at Mills Home. They were part of World Changers and installed new vinyl siding on the old home where I live on campus.
Volunteers from Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem painted the Sunday school rooms at Mills Home Baptist Church. We also had groups from Green Level Baptist in Cary, Southside Baptist in Greensboro, Stallings Memorial Baptist in Salisbury, First Baptist in Dublin, Baptist Grove Baptist Church in Fuquay Varina, and Friendship Baptist Church in Asheboro assisting with renovations at Cameron Boys Camp. A group of ladies from Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem provided a very special baby shower for one of our family care moms and her new baby.
These were a few of the many church volunteers hailing from the mountains to the coast. My heart overflowed with gratitude as they conducted VBS, Bible studies, mission projects, worship services, ice cream socials, and cookouts. Groups also built wheelchair ramps and helped with other building projects.
A very big thanks goes to the many volunteers who chose to be on mission for God this summer at Baptist Children’s Homes. Thank you for faithfully carrying out our mission of “sharing hope. . .changing lives.” Thank you to all who gave financially to help with our summertime programs. Because of your gifts of time and resources, the summer was filled with a multitude of special activities and adventures that became special memories for the children and families in our care.
Summer is now drawing to a close and our children are preparing for a new school year. As we begin September, the children are filled with the excitement of what the new school year holds for them. With the new school year, also comes an increase in expenses. If you have not already sent your special “Back-to-School” gift, it’s not too late to help.
I am very encouraged by your phone calls and notes expressing your willingness to make a difference in the life of a child – to give them a second chance. Your words of encouragement come daily, often accompanied by a personal check of $5, $10, $500, $1,000. Some bring commitments of monthly gifts. Each note is filled with love. All end with the affirmation that you are remembering our children and families in prayer.
Thank you for putting your faith into action through your prayerful support. There are many ways you can help carry out BCH’s mission. Here are a few:
August and September are traditionally months we see an increase in expenses due to children returning to school. The bills for clothes and school supplies and transportation are hitting our budget hard. A special “Back-to-School” gift makes an incredible difference! You can give at [www.bchfamily. org/givenow](http://www.bchfamily. org/givenow).
Call to schedule a speaker to promote BCH’s Annual Offering in your church – 1-800-476-3669 ext. 1209.
Attend one of our “Friends of Children” mission opportunities in September and help us with renovation projects and clean up. Click for Friends of Children Registration.
Call for a Mission Impact information sheet which suggests lots of great project ideas and ways you can help BCH’s boys and girls. Download a sheet from www.bchfamily.org/offering.
It is not too early to begin planning for Christmas. Providing Christmas gifts for the numbers of children we serve is an enormous task. Consider being a child’s Christmas sponsor this year.
