Tabitha's Heart Soars for God
March 4, 2013
On October 24, 2012, sixteen-year-old Tabitha was baptized in Broyhill Home’s indoor pool as shouts of joy echoed around her. Broyhill Home, our residential facility in Clyde where Tabitha lives, was the perfect place to celebrate her decision to follow Jesus.
Words seemed inadequate to describe the depth of emotion felt as BCH’s President, Michael C. Blackwell and Lewis Smith immersed Tabitha in the water.
"The joy in her expression when she emerged was as great as I’ve ever seen on a child’s face," says Blackwell.
To say Tabitha has flourished since coming to BCH in August 2011 is an understatement. When she first arrived more than a year ago, Tabitha struggled with such extreme anxiety and self-esteem issues that she could barely talk to a person or look anyone in the eye.
Today, Tabitha is speaking in front of hundreds of people sharing her personal testimony of God’s goodness. She has led daily devotions in her cottage and loves attending church. And at the beginning of the year, Tabitha expressed her desire to be involved in missions this coming summer.
“God has given me a gift to help others,” Tabitha says. “I want to be a missionary, and I feel like that is a reachable goal because of the hope and encouragement I have here.”
Because of the support of Baptist Children's Homes' friends, Tabitha has blossomed. And because of the hope she has received, she wants to share God’s love with others. Just as Tabitha desires to share God’s love, every day BCH's Christian houseparents and staff members are ministering to the children and families being served in BCH's statewide homes.
You can help make hope possible for children like Tabitha and all of BCH’s boys and girls through a special Easter gift.
Did you know that 70% of Baptist Children’s Homes’ residents come to us unchurched? In 2012, 65 of BCH’s residents accepted Christ! Miracles are happening across your BCH mission field because of the compassionate support of friends like you. Your Easter gift is not only important for providing daily care to boys and girls, but it goes to meet their spiritual needs as well.
