Developmental Disabilities

Developmental Disabilities Ministry provides special needs adults long-term residential care and opportunities for residents to achieve goals and reach their highest level of independence in community-based, gender-specific group homes located throughout the state.

The program is designed to provide opportunities for spiritual enrichment, nutritional meal preparation, transportation, assistance with and teaching of daily living skills, and planned social and recreational activities in a safe environment.

07.10.2011: "Bolick Believers" enjoy summer at camp

Our residents at Bolick Home have been doubly blessed this year and were able to attend not one but two camps designated for persons with developmental disabilities. They all returned with smiles on their faces and many stories to share. They attended Camp Sunshine in Black Mountain and Camp Linn Haven in Linville. 03.09.2011: Alverta Bolick Home Receives 4-Star Rating

State surveyors showed up in February to complete their annual survey of our Developmental Disabilities group home in Asheville. We surpassed several standards with the policies and procedures that we have in place helping us score extra points. All of our documentation was in order and was a welcome sight to the surveyor. The Alverta Bolick Home is only one of two out of 94 facilities in Buncombe County that hold 0 deficiencies. ... more

02.10.2011: Alverta Bolick Home Residents Start Powerlifting

Special Olympics of Buncombe County welcomes the addition of Powerlifting to its choices for athletes to participate in this year. The "Bolick Believers" were right there this month to sign up and begin participation. They have some of the best volunteers from the local police and fire departments joining forces with Special Olympics to offer Powerlifting. The Bolick Believers are so excited and are anticipating being in the state games this spring!... more
