Christmas Celebrated at Cameron Boys Camp
12.22.2011
At the beginning of the month, camp groups started decorating the dining hall for Christmas. Each group went on a ramble around the property looking for the best Christmas tree. The Frontiersmen group’s tree got picked and they received the privilege of decorating the tree. They also built a manger scene. After each meal, everyone started practicing and learning Christmas carols. There was also a focus on Christ’s birth during the outdoor chapel Sunday and Wednesday services. On December 2nd, the Moore County Law Enforcement Officers group catered a barbecue lunch. They joined camp groups in singing Christmas carols after lunch and also visited campsites. That night, all the groups attended the annual Singing Christmas Tree presented by Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. The church singles group also hosted an after concert pizza dinner and opened up the church gym so that the campers can play basketball. On December 3, the Pinehurst chapter of the Harley-Davidson group braved the cool morning temperatures and came roaring to camp on their motorcycles. They spent time showing campers their bikes. They joined camp for lunch and singing Christmas carols. They also gave camp some presents. On December 9th, Green Level Baptist Church had their youth lead in praise and worship as well as Christmas songs. The church also gave each camper a bag of presents. On December 10th, EC Waddell, a longtime friend of camp, and several Sanford area churches, organized a Christmas party for camp. He invited Derwin Hinson who held a short concert sharing his talent for playing multiple musical instruments. Domino’s Pizza delivered several pizzas for lunch and a race car was parked outside the dining hall. Campers were given a lot of presents at the end of the program. One afternoon, the Rangers, Camp's oldest group, baked cookies with the camp cooks. They delivered a batch of cookies to several friends of camp in the community. On Monday night, the whole camp did Christmas caroling to several homes in Vass and Cameron. It was a good way for camp to give back to the community. Everyone had a lot of fun singing Christmas carols and did a great job. Before the campers went home for their Christmas break, camp had a big Christmas dinner. Afterwards, each group presented a skit and sang more carols. At the end of the program, Santa Claus came and distributed presents to campers and staff.
