Cameron Camp Group's Successful Mountain Trip
09.24.2010
The Trailblazers group, led by their chiefs David Choquette, Adam Tahan and Matthew Lundy, recently completed their two week mountain trip. The group spent a week camping out on the shores of Lake Santeetlah. They visited several sites such as John C. Campbell Folk School and Joyce Kilmer Memorial. They also spent a lot of time swimming, canoeing, and fishing on the lake. The Trailblazers spent the following week at the Craig Cottage, which they used as a base for visiting different craftmen in the area creating homemade folk art. The group learned a lot about wood turning, wood sculpture, marquetry (the art of inlaying different woods), and blacksmithing. They also found time to explore the waterfalls in the area. The Trailblazers had a great time building their group up as they had fun with each other and learned more about our cultural heritage.
Campers Greet Chris Boone at the Outer Banks
09.21.2010
The Rangers group, led by their Chiefs Jason Sullivan and Mike Elders, spent a few days in the Outer Banks to support Chris Boone on his bike ride. The group camped at one of the national park service campgrounds on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The group got to know Chris earlier this year on their mountain trip where they spent time visiting and hiking with Chris. They were really looking forward to seeing him again. The group helped in the church service for the final celebration for RideNC2010. While in the area, the group also visited the Wright Brothers National Memorial and Jockeys Ridge State Park, where they had a lot of fun playing on the tallest natural sand dune system on the East Coast.
