Campers Enjoy Beach Cottage Adventures

05.27.2009

The Rangers and the Frontiersmen groups spent a week at the McNeill Home beach cottage and had a lot of adventures. The two groups had separate plans/activities, but were able to share their experiences (and what they learned from their day trips) with each other during the short program after the meals. Both groups were able to visit the aquarium, Fort Macon and Maritime Museum. They also took their canoes to Carrot Island to look for wild horses, and do some pier fishing. Of course, there was swimming, catching ghost crabs, finding different creatures while exploring the Bogue Sound and flying kites at the beach. Chapel services were also held at the gazebo by the beach and under the oak trees by the cottage. The groups were able to build spirit and had memorable experiences not only with each other but also with the cooks and supervisors.

Family Day at Cameron Boys Camp

05.21.2009

Cameron held its annual Family Day last Sunday. The event was well attended by families and extended families of campers. Because of the wet weather, the outdoor chapel service was held in the dining hall. The families also toured the campsites and took part in activities planned by each group. They were also treated to a presentation showing pictures of camp trips and experiences. Following a delicious lunch was a time of singing and sharing. We thank our campers and their families for making it a great day.

Cameron's Trailblazers Group Spends 10 Days at Camp Duncan

05.20.2009

The Trailblazers group from Cameron Boys Camp returned from their 10 day lake trip at the forthcoming Camp Duncan for girls in Aberdeen. The group camped beside the lake and did some work like clearing trails, laying down erosion logs and skinning sitting logs. They also spent some time fishing, exploring the property and learning camping trip routines. The group built several wooden structures in their campsite including a table for meals and racks for fishing gear and tools. The Trailblazers had a lot of fun with each other and felt good about helping Camp Duncan.
