Trailblazers Canoe the Great Pee Dee River

03.11.2010

Cameron Boys Camp's Trailblazers group returned last weekend after spending six days canoeing the Great Pee Dee River. The group worked hard and paddled 73 miles. They had a lot of fun as a group building sand forts, climbing trees and seeing wildlife along the river including a bald eagle, deer, beavers, osprey, etc. The group grew by trusting each other and learning river trip routines. The trip was in preparation for a more extensive canoe trip in Florida later this month.

Rangers Visit Washington DC Area

03.10.2010

Cameron Boys Camp's Rangers group, led by chiefs Garth Thorpe, Mike Elders and Jason Sullivan, spent a week exploring the Washington D.C. area. The group camped out at Greenbelt Park and stayed warm even though there was snow on the ground. They visited the different national treasures such as the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Memorial, etc. They also spent time at the Air and Space Museum, the Holocaust Museum and the Spy Museum. The Rangers visited the US Naval Academy in Annapolis as well. While in Annapolis, they were treated to several meals by Chief Garth's parents. They also got to visit with former camp chief Karl Nebbia. The group had a lot of fun exploring together and learned a lot about their session theme, which is World War II.
