01.30.2010
The Rangers group recently visited the Airborne and Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville. The group has been studying World War II for the last few weeks and traveled to the museum to find out more about it. They later joined BCH trustee Sandy Saunders for lunch. Mr. Saunders took them to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church to give the group an opportunity to play basketball.
Cameron Group's Mountain Trip
01.30.2010
The Rangers group spent five days exploring the western part of the state last week. They stayed at Broyhill's gym and used that as a base for day trips. They spent some time with some of the friends/supporters of camp and BCH. They visited Mrs. Smathers and did a few work projects for her. They also spent a day and hiked with Chris Boone to Roan Mountain. The group hiked in the Pisgah National Forest and had a snowball fight. They visited the Fun Factory and had a great time there as well. The Rangers enjoyed not only spending time with BCH friends, but also strengthened their groupp by having unforgettable experiences together.
Scavenger Hunt at Cameron Boys Camp
01.21.2010
Last Friday, Cameron held its annual camp-wide scavenger hunt. Each group had their packed lunch as they spent the whole day exploring the camp property. Everyone had a lot of fun rambling through the woods collecting natural items on their list such as different types of seeds, mosses, ferns, pine cones, and feathers. They also searched for cypress trees, the largest trees at camp. Also on the list were hornets nests, animal bones, etc. They also had to complete an orienteering course set up by supervisors. Each group showed what they collected after supper. The Rangers, the oldest group, won the scavenger hunt. It was a spirit-building time for camp and not only an opportunity for teamwork and exploring unfamiliar parts of camp, but also learning and understanding the natural environment.
