Weekday Education: Journal

Gregg Center & DDM Visits Oak Ranch

08.27.2008

It was a great day on August 14th when 23 children from the Gregg Center, a part of BCH's Weekday Education program, met up with seven adults from BCH's Developmental Disabilities Ministry for a day of fun at Oak Ranch. Oak Ranch director Phill Richmond, along with his helpers, graciously showed us how to groom the horses, saddle them up, and ride them. Everyone had a turn riding a horse around the field. For some, this was a first experience! Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch at the new picnic shelter by the beautiful Cape Fear River. Thank you to Phill, Bill, and all the kids that helped us out that day! It was fun!!

Vacation Bible School a "Summer Plus!"

08.04.2008

Weekday Education offered Vacation Bible School last week at all centers as a part of the "Summer Plus" program. Summer Plus means that BCH offers something extra that other summer programs may not. The teachers really got excited as they planned the week with fun games, crafts, activities, and bible stories. The theme was the tropical Outrigger Island. Teachers and children dressed in Hawaiian shirts and dresses, grass skirts, and handmade tie-dyed t-shirts. Many ended the week with a hot dog picnic lunch. Some enjoyed it under the shade trees while others had picnics in their cool classrooms. It was a fun week for all!
