Gregg Center Student Receives National Award

02.16.2010

Cameron, a fifth grader at Liberty Drive Elementary School in Thomasville, was nominated for the "NAGC Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award" for North Carolina. Only one student from each state can receive this award each year. This award is designed to recognize excellence in young students and is awarded to one student in each state by the National Association for Gifted Children, in Washington, D.C. The award is named after Nicholas Green, a young the young gifted student who was killed in 1994, in a drive-by shooting while on vacation with his family in Italy. In addition to unselfishly donating all of Nicholas' organs to save seven children in Italy, his parents decided to donate the money they were saving for his college fund to recognize other gifted children. Cameron is one of those delightful children you know to expect great things from. He spends two afternoons a week helping to tutor classmates and younger children at the Gregg Center. The award is a huge honor, we can't think of anyone more deserving.
