Church, Students Build Storage Building

05.24.2010

Willie Harris has been the Vocational teacher at our on campus school at Odum Home for over 20 years and he likes to teach his tools of the trade by example. We needed a storage building constructed at Indian Memorial Cottage so he called up the Brotherhood from his church, Harper's Ferry Baptist Church, and they anwsered the call. Mr. Harris used one week to teach measurements and how to use tools. Students helped construct the building alongside the Brotherhood. We appreciate Mr. Harris and his dedication to Odum Home and for providing our children with life skills that they can carry with them into the future. The boys and girls took great pride in helping construct that building for IMC and they look forward to the opportunity to do another project.

Odum Home Hosts Scott' Hill Baptist Church

05.24.2010

Odum Home has been so blessed to have members from Scott's Hill Baptist Church on the campus for several days recently and will return on future dates. Scott's Hill Baptist Church is from the Wilmington Baptist Association. They have begun much-needed refurbishing of Indian Memorial Cottage, Latta Harnett Cottage and the gymnasium. Everything seems brighter when your environment is brightened! We are so excited for their committment to making these projects possible and the diligent efforts of BCH's Danny Hawkins to let others know about the needs. We are thankful Scott's Hill and others anwsered that call. Thank you to Scott's Hill Baptist Church...you are truly appreciated.

Friends of Children Help Odum Home

05.17.2010

The Friends of Children workday at Odum Home was held May 15th. We had more than 230 volunteers participate and approximately 20 different churches were represented. We also had volunteers from the campus of the University of North Carolina in Pembroke. Volunteers helped with a list of jobs that included landscaping, removing shrubbery, cleaning in the cottages and administration building, power washing buildings, washing agency vehicles, cleaning ditch banks, putting out mulch, planting flowers and helping inventory in the food building. Everyone started gathering around 11:30 for a wonderful meal prepared by none other than Meryl Johnson and the great team from the Baptist Men's Cook Group of Region #3. The meal consisted of homemade BBQ, grilled chicken, baked beans, hushpuppies and slaw that was provided by Sheff's Restaurant. Tea and lemonade were provided by staff. We appreciate all the volunteers who made this day successful. It's always amazing to see how much our children and the ministry of BCH is loved and supported...especially from North Carolina Baptists!
