Kennedy Home youth and staff members enjoyed a wonderful day at Kings Dominion on Tuesday, July 22nd. Thanks to Alpha Herring for planning and leading the group on this trip. We are also grateful for several individuals and church groups who funded this very special day!

Inspirational Speaker Shares with Kennedy and Odum

07.10.2008

Tawana Williams, a motivational speaker and author, spoke to the Kennedy Home and Odum Home youth and staff on June 30th. Mrs. Williams, age 42, was born without arms. She shared her testimony about accomplishments and achievements that anyone can acquire by using and making the best of God’s gifts. One of her most remembered statements was what her grandmother told her: “Tawana, God didn’t give you arms, because he knew you didn’t need them.” She continuously stated throughout her presentation, “God gives you what you need.” Everyone came away amazed, inspired and thankful!

Kennedy Home Participates in 'Take A Kid Fishing'

07.10.2008

The children were able to go on a deep-sea fishing trip as part of the “Take a Kid Fishing” annual event. The youth went to sea on two boats provided by Nancy Lee Charters out of Swansboro, NC. It was a great day of fishing with beautiful weather and a good catch of sea bass, flounder, ring tails, and grouper. It is a huge “once in a lifetime” experience for many of our children. We are blessed to be offered this trip year after year. We celebrated the fishing experience with a campus-wide fish fry on Friday, June 27th.

Mon-Aetna Church Visits Kennedy Home

07.10.2008

Kennedy Home’s June calendar ended with two big annual events, the Mon-Aetna Baptist Church’s week of Bible Camp and the deep-sea fishing trip. Mon-Aetna has come from South Carolina to the campus for the last seven summers to provide a week of Bible study, recreation, meals, and good Christian witness for Kennedy Home’s children. This year’s theme was “No Idols”, which came from the large popularity of the TV show American Idol. They helped the children to consider the idols that often sidetrack our faith. Many of the youth made new commitments to Christ. Mon-Aetna also provided lunch for the campus each day, recreational events (such as a campus scavenger hunt, and an ice cream sundae relay), and t-shirts for the children and staff. It was a tremendous experience for all.
