Kennedy Home Holds Oak Tree Planting Ceremony

05.31.2010

In honor of Baptist Children’s Homes’ 125th Anniversary, the Kennedy Home children and staff held their "Oak Tree Planting" ceremony on Wednesday, May 26th. Jeff With led the service, sharing the meaning of "Quasquicentennial." Following the scripture reading of Isaiah 61:3b: “They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor,” "The Oak Tree," poem by Johnny Ray Ryder Jr, was read. A special thank you to Buddy Gurganus, Kennedy Home Grounds/Maintenance staff member and two of the campus youth who work with him through the Student Work Program for preparing the ground for planting and also planting the tree during the ceremony.

Friends of Children at Kennedy Home

05.12.2010

On Saturday, May 1st, Kennedy Home hosted 31 churches and approximately 315 volunteers for the campus’ Friends of Children day! These wonderful people came ready and willing to work and help in all areas. Many things were accomplished: yard work, painting, cleaning, planting flowers, stocking food and many other campus chores. It was exciting to have nearly 20 Kennedy Home Alumni participate in the workday by cleaning and arranging memorabilia in the Alumni Room at the Food Locker. A special thanks to Madison Avenue Baptist Church of Goldsboro for providing a delicious BBQ pork chop lunch for the entire group. It is amazing how much support, love and concern these friends have for the BCH ministry.
