Groundbreaking Celebrates New Home and History
04.26.2010
BCH's Eastern Area Family Services is expanding! On Sunday, April 25th, a full day of events was held celebrating Britton Ministries, a new group home to be established in Ahoskie (Hertford County). This beautiful facility will serve nine youth. The event-filled day began at First Baptist Church in Ahoskie where Dr. Blackwell brought the morning message, “A Train, A Preacher, and a Little Girl.” Dr. Blackwell shared with the congregation the historic ties between BCH and the Ahoskie community. He spoke of how the late John Mitchell, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Ahoskie, boarded a train with nine year old Mary Presson on November 11, 1885. Reverend Mitchell personally saw to it that the young girl would arrive safely to her new home in Thomasville. On that day nearly 125 years ago, Mary became the first child ever admitted into BCH's care. Voila: QUASQUICENTENNIAL! The entire service was centered on serving children. More than 200 people attended the afternoon groundbreaking ceremony. Additional gifts and pledges to help cover the building costs were received - Hallelujah! The love, support and kindness shown for Baptist Children’s Homes by the churches and people in the area are very evident. It was a glorious day! A special thanks to Jeff Joyner, Eastern Area Director of Development, for his faithful and tireless dedication in making this phenomenal day a reality.
Volunteers Love Kennedy Home
04.20.2010
Kennedy Home is very grateful for the many churches and individuals who provide so much support. Since January 1st, the campus has hosted volunteer groups every Saturday except for one! That’s fifteen weekends! These groups have either hosted ministry events or organized work projects. It is amazing to see and experience the concern and care people have for BCH.
Tar River Association Ministers at Kennedy Home
04.19.2010
Kennedy Home enjoyed a great weekend hosting youth groups from various churches in the Tar River Association. The groups completed various work projects, recreation events, devotions in the individual cottages and led the Sunday Morning worship service. They also hosted a wonderful campus-wide pig pickin’ supper Saturday evening. First Baptist Church of Jacksonville’s youth came on Saturday and worked in the farm’s Pine Forrest and the local chapter of the American Legion provided, for their 26th year, a great lunch for everyone. It was a busy, productive and fun weekend.
