Homecoming at Mills Home

08.10.2009

Approximately 450+ Mills Home alumni celebrated Homecoming on August 1st and 2nd. They began gathering in front of the gym on Friday afternoon and spent most of the time remincising about their days at Mills Home. This year, alumni organized a golf tournament on Saturday at Winding Creek Golf Course in Thomasville. The profits will benefit Mills Home’s future residents. Alumni not attending the golf tournament enjoyed activities in the gym such as cake walks, balloon stomps, and free throw contests. Some current Mills Home residents won several home made cakes and were very happy with their prizes. The afternoon was spent enjoying the pool and participating in the traditional watermelon cutting under the trees. Sunday’s activities began with a worship service at Mills Home Baptist Church. The guest speaker was Thomasville Senior High School football coach Allen Brown. Mr. Brown had gone to school with some of the alumni and had even coached some of them. After the service, the traditional lunch of barbeque and slaw, barbeque chicken, green beans, and hot dogs was served in the gym. Also at the gym, a silent auction was held Saturday and Sunday until 1:00. A grand opening has held for Bright Brown Cottage, Mills Home's new transitional living cottage for boys. Former residents of the cottage were amazed and pleased with the changes that had been made. Goodbyes were said and everyone is already looking forward to next year!
