"One Voice" Comes to Broyhill Home

06.16.2008

Melissa McLamb, Director of "One Voice" from Providence Baptist Church in Raleigh, brought a group of 10 girls, ages 13-17, to Broyhill Home for a performance on June 13. The group provided about 45 minutes of organized games with our youth from Broyhill Home and Haywood Mountain Home. The groups were divided up according to ages. A devotion was shared by the Minister of Music. One Voice then performed a concert for our group. The songs consisted of contemporary to Old Southern Gospel and hymns. Some of the songs were performed acapella and three part harmonies. The girls were AWESOME and everyone enjoyed this time together. The concert last about an hour. The Broyhill Home housemothers provided everyone with a light lunch of sandwiches, fruits and vegetables. If anyone ever gets the chance to hear this group, be sure to go!

Western Area Celebrates Last Day of School

06.12.2008

Yesterday was a great day in the West! We celebrated school being out with a big water filled day. We had the famous slip and slide, which is where we put plastic down on the big hill in front of the office and squirt water on the kids and plastic as they go down the slide. Everyone participated (with the help of Linda Morgan)! We then had a great cookout. The housefathers prepared grilled hot dogs, chili, chips, pickles and drinks. After that the children all went swimming until the afternoon thunderstorms arrived. Congratulations everyone on another great school year!

Broyhill Home Goes to the Circus

06.03.2008

Broyhill Home children and staff went to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum $ Bailey Circus on Sunday, June 1. Luckily we were invited to the pre-show and everyone was able to go down and get in the ring to meet the circus performers and animals. Children were able to try on costumes, talk to the circus performers, swing on the ropes, etc. The children and staff members were in awe once the circus got underway, and all eyes were on the rings. There were lions, tigers, elephants and clowns on bicycles as well as traipeze artists. At the end of the show everyone was talking about the great day they had had at the circus!

Clown and Puppet Show

06.03.2008

On Saturday, May 31, a group led by Gil Phillips at Turkey Creek Baptist Church visited the Broyhill Home campus for a clown and puppet show. The children interacted so well and enjoyed this day very much. They had face paintings after the show. Lunch was served by the group and it was a delightful day. We want to thank Gil Phillips and his group for this wonderful day!
