Broyhill Home Barbecue Festival

The Broyhill Barbecue Festival “Cooking for the Kids” was held on the Broyhill campus on Saturday, May 14th. This festival has become an annual event with all proceeds going to Broyhill. This year there were more vendors involved and more people attending than any of the previous festivals. The day started out with a professional bow shoot around the lake and upper campus. There were targets scattered around with prizes being given to the top contenders. A truck, car and motorcycle show was held in the gym parking lot from 10:00-2:00, again with prizes being given to the “best in show”. Various craft vendors were set up around the campus and live entertainment could be heard echoing in the valley. The meal consisted of barbecue chicken, ribs and plates of barbecue. A judging was held and the top cooks received awards. Sandy Saunders, chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Dr. Michael C. Blackwell were our special guests. This was Mr. Saunders' first trip to the west and Linda Morgan and Dr. Blackwell made sure that he was given the VIP tour. Everyone had a great day and we are anticipating next year’s event!
