Transitional Living
Transitional living is a residential program to aid older children as they prepare for life as independent adults. The specialized program provides care, counseling, and life-skills education to older children in a less restricted residential setting. Transitional living is available to children ages 16 to 21. Children live in a transitional living group home with an on-site resident manager who provides support and supervision. Residents work with a case manager to establish and achieve a variety of goals including establishing stable employment, pursuing educational opportunities, learning financial management, and strengthening their abilities to make appropriate choices.
Family Care
Family Care offers supportive group homes for single mothers and their children. The transitional program provides a goal-focused living environment within a cottage setting. Family Care is specifically structured to help mothers transition to a successful, independent living situation. This service will connect a mother and her family with the necessary resources and other community services needed to regain control of her life. Mothers learn the skills needed to obtain and maintain a stable home, job and income. Baptist Children’s Homes' counselor and live-in residential manager assist the mother in setting and achieving family goals, developing parenting and job skills, budgeting, and resolving transportation needs.
Foster Care
Foster Care is a service providing substitute residential care for a child over a planned period when his/her family or legal custodian cannot provide care. A family foster home is a facility licensed for care and a place of residence for a family who receives as many as one, but no more than five children, for 24-hour care. For more information about foster care, or if you are interested in becoming a foster family through Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina, visit www.bchfostercare.org
Clarification/Value Change
Clarification/Value Change are components of all BCH primary residential care. Clarification service helps families to understand and define their immediate relationships. Value change occurs as family relationships are clarified, and children and their families learn problem-solving skills.
