Baptist Children's Homes began a yearlong strategic planning effort in January 2004. It was an unprecedented effort and holds the greatest promise of any strategic plan adopted in the past two decades. The process involved all staff as well as BCH Trustees, children and families served, a number of North Carolina Baptists, state social service professionals, and members of the state’s citizenry. The vision was to create a plan that would serve for years to come and integrate all areas of BCH’s work together defining a new era of ministry to children and families. The plan is entitled GuidingStar: Illuminating the Lives of Children and Families.

Prologue to Greatness

The Prologue to Greatness was written by BCH president Michael C. Blackwell. Blackwell begins to capture the spirit of GuidingStar as he recounts BCH's rich history and heritage. The energy of GuidingStar is defined in the institution’s core values and five driving thrusts. The Prologue to Greatness is the springboard for GuidingStar as it unfolds in the days, months and years ahead.
