Nineteen-year-old Robert has the skillet on the stove. He cracks two eggs into a bowl and swirls them around with a fork, whipping them before pouring them into the hot pan. “I cook once a week in the cottage,” Robert says. “I like corn, and I cook hamburgers and hot dogs. Nothing too complicated.”

While Olympic athletes exhibit their prowess at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Sedrick stretches himself to gain greater mobility. The 23-year-old suffered traumatic brain injury as a boy. Years of neglect left his feet and right hand shriveled.

Sisters Share Hopeful Future

They’re in the oven,” Joianne tells her sister Bria. The elder sibling is making fresh chocolate chip cookies. Bria loves warm cookies. Fourteen-year-old Joianne and thirteen-year-old Bria have lived at Kennedy Home in Kinston for a little less than a year. The sisters have adjusted well, especially regarding their success in school.
