    Brothers’ Faith Blesses Children’s Homes

    October 26, 2007

When Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina’s (BCH) Lewis Smith spoke with Richard and Ted Rhodes, President and Vice President of Rhodes Bros. Paving, Inc. in Franklin, about repaving the deteriorating roadways at Broyhill Home, the two brothers knew immediately what they had to do.

“God impressed it on our hearts to do this,” Richard says. “The Lord has really blessed us, and He wanted us to do this.”

Broyhill Home provides residential services to help children and families in crisis. BCH operates Broyhill Home in Clyde as well as Moody Ministries in Franklin and Haywood Mountain Home in Waynesville.

Rhodes Bros. repaved the roads at BCH’s western area campus in Clyde in late September. It took four days to complete the project which totaled $120,900. Richard and Ted refused to charge BCH donating everything from the materials to labor. It is one of the largest in-kind gifts given to the Children’s Homes in recent years.

“We received a miracle when the Rhodes brothers did this,” BCH’s Western Area Family Services director Linda Morgan says. “The campus is beautiful!”

The boys and girls living at Broyhill Home sent Richard and Ted personal notes thanking them for their generosity. “There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when we received their cards,” Richard says.

The roads that were rough and cracked are now smooth and pristine. While Broyhill Home has reaped tremendous benefit from the Rhodes brothers, Richard contends that he and Ted are the ones who received the biggest blessing.

“The Lord really touched our hearts as we did this,” Richard says. “I don’t know how to explain it. It was just a tremendous blessing.”

Since 1885, Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina has helped children and families. BCH began with one campus, Mills Home in Thomasville, but now provides services in communities across the state.
