Baptist Children’s Homes Staff Member Receives
    Three Communicators Awards

    April 17, 2007

Jim Edminson, Institutional Director for Communications for Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina (BCH), received three first place awards in the Wilmer C. Fields Awards Competition. The awards banquet was held at the Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile, Alabama on Friday, April 13.

“It’s exciting and humbling,” Edminson says. “It’s always great to be affirmed by your peers.”

The annual Wilmer C. Fields Awards Competition is organized by the national Baptist Communicators Association (BCA) based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The purpose of the awards competition is to "recognize the best image-makers and storytellers" in Baptist life. This year’s competition received a total of 398 entries from Baptist affiliated organizations across the nation.

Edminson directs communications for all of BCH’s statewide facilities including Mills Home in Thomasville. He is also editor of Charity & Children, BCH’s monthly news publication.

Edminson won first place awards in three different categories. He received an award for his first person column “Just Give Me Wings” published in the October 2006 edition of Charity & Charity. He was recognized for his photo of BCH resident “Amber” that ran in the September 2006 issue of Charity & Charity. Edminson also received an award for book design for Just Call Me Mickey, the biography of BCH president Michael C. Blackwell.

Since 1885, Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina has helped children and families. BCH began with one campus, Mills Home in Thomasville, but now provides services in communities across the state.
