Celebrate BCH History by Being A Part of It

    May 31, 2010

On November 11, 1885, the Reverend John Mitchell traveled from his home in northeastern North Carolina to the small community of Thomasville. With him was nine-year-old Mary Presson. On that day, she became the first child admitted into care.

In honor of Baptist Children’s Homes’ 125th anniversary -- or “Quasquicentennial” -- BCH is creating The Heritage Walk & Garden. Built in front of Mills Home Baptist Church, this lasting reminder will serve as a marker of this historic milestone and a testament to those who have dedicated themselves in service of children.

The Heritage Walk & Garden is being constructed in the shape of a cross with a circular walkway comprised of bricks inscribed with names and personalized messages from those who are intimately connected with Baptist Children’s Homes. Colorful flowers and greenery will surround and embellish this tribute. And fittingly, at its center will be the “Child of Hope” statue.

The Heritage Walk & Garden will commemorate BCH’s rich history and celebrate the lives that have been forever impacted throughout the 125 years.

**You can become a part of history as we celebrate it together. This is your opportunity to become a part of The Heritage Walk & Garden. Purchase a brick or bricks inscribed with your name and personal message. Honor or memorialize someone special. Inscribe a brick with a message of appreciation or encouragement. Whatever you decide, your brick(s)...will be a part of this special place forever. **

The cost of a 4 x 8 inch brick is $100.00. There are four lines with 21 spaces per line for your message. You can also purchase a larger 8 x 8 brick for $250.00 that will be placed at a premium location in the monument.

Visit BCH's 125th Anniversary Webpage to place an order for your brick.
